Nachtrag: So sollte es mit dem UTW im WordPress klappen (wenn in den UTW Options Embedded Tags aktiviert sind) hier klappt es bisher nicht!

The first one is the native support of Widgets, the second one is the inclusion of the oh so great Javascript library jQuery.

Its nice to see the widgets finally in the core, but i´m absolutly not satisfied with the implementation. There still is a whole lot of Javascript generated in the head section of the widgets edit page. Come on guys, now that you have the ease of jQuery, use a little DOM Traversal!

Here you can view / download my jQueryfied extended Widgets plugin, which i´m using in my WordPress projects for quite some time. The associated javascript using jQuery can be seen here. This can can be of course enhanced, and is by far perfect. But it saves you a damn lot of javascript and makes the widgets interface really fast when you are having a whole bunch of widgets (especially king widgets). And you absolutly don´t have the need for generated inline javascript.

The second thing where the wordpress team still has a loooot to do, is the posting page. I was really shocked by those 10-14 javascript includes on the edit page when the 2.0 update came out. But despite the switching to jQuery the situation in there hasn´t significantly changed. I would say it has become even worse. I have never seen such a javascript lib mashup like in there … its a wonder that all this is still working. In the current version they also started to have some dynamicly generated inline Javscript … puh what a mess. Pleasy guys kill all third party libs and just stick to jQuery Plugins without any inline javascripting.

Well that´s just some quick thoughts after looking in the mentioned sections for 2 minutes. Still WordPress is the CMS / Blog System of my choice, for a whole bunch of reasons. I´m sure the team will tackle those probs in the future, and we should not forget that they are doing this in their free time.

The most advanced WordPress Categories Widget has become even better! 

The King Categories Widget Version 0.92 now has a couple of new switches .. as if it hadn´t already enough.

New features are:

- Complete "Where to Show" options like already present in other king widgets. You can differentiate very fine grained where to show which categorie widget

- remote Version check 

- Copy Options from another cat widget

- options dumper to quickly exchange options between two sites

Go get it but don´t forget to update the King Framework version 0.70 

Jetzt wollen wir uns ebenfalls bei der "Rettet das Joomla!-Radio" Aktion beteiligen. 

Das Joomla Radio stellte nach eigener Aussage die Webseite ein und wird keine weiteren News zum CMS innerhalb der Sendung bringen. Aufgrund der hohen Kosten und geringen Resonanz lohne es sich einfach nicht entsprechende News zu bringen. Schade, da gerade auf diesem Gebiet praktisch keine Angebote existieren. Die Webseite selbst soll zwar noch online bleiben, aber nicht weiter gepflegt werden wenn sich keine Unterstützung findet. Eine kleine Hintertür bleibt aber offen da Andreas Duswald ausdrücklich schreibt das mit etwas mehr Hilfe das Projekt durchaus weiter geführt werden könnte. Dies sollte also der beste Zeitpunkt sein um aktiv zu werden und das Joomla Radio doch noch zu retten. Wer Hilfe welcher Art auch immer anbieten kann schreibt bitte direkt über das Kontaktformular seiner Webseite.

Wäre schön, wenn die Community nicht immer nur nimmt, sondern auch mal Eigeninitiative zeigt und gibt!

Jedoch sollten Anwender wohl vorerst davon absehen, die neue Version direkt auf- bzw. einzuspielen da es noch zu einigen Problemen kommt!

Wer sich ungern mit Büchern beschäftigt, und eher das persönliche Gespräch sucht, dürfte bei den neuen Lehrgängen für Joomla! fündig werden. Statt trockener Texte bietet basta!media intensive Schulungen für kleine Gruppen an. Ein Paket das sich speziell an Anwender richtet (Redakteure), und auf der anderen Seite ein Paket für Entwickler die Joomla auch installieren und als Administratoren tätig werden. Je nach Aufgabe nur die Informationen die für den jeweiligen Benutzerkreis wichtig sind und dafür besonders intensiv behandelt. Wer also auf eine schnelle Einarbeitung angewiesen ist, dürfte sich über dieses Angebot besonders freuen.

Scheinbar ist es dem Windows Live Writer auch egal ob der Blog auf html oder auf xhtml basiert. Er geht einfach davon aus das er auf html basiert, obwohl sicher die meisten Blogs auf xhtml und basieren. Daher kann ein unschöner und nicht immer W3C konformer Code entstehen. Desweiteren ist auch sehr fraglich wieso der Windows Live Writer noch mit Inline Font Tags arbeitet.

Fehler und Macken die mir aufgefallen sind:

– unerwünschtes Temporary Post
– kein End Tag bei br, End Tags werden bei XML benötigt
– nicht nur Umlaute werden nicht in Entities umgeschrieben
– ab und an wird ein Li vergessen
– inline Font Tags anstelle von CSS
– bisher nur englische Rechtschreibprüfung

Fazit: Da der Code nicht immer sauber ist, sowie weder Xhtml noch Entities unterstützt werden ist das Tool nichts für Blogger die wert auf einen validen und sauberen Quellcode legen.

Die wichtigsten Features (von Website entnommen):

• PDF messages can be automatically created and sent as attachments to ensure that your message is seen the way it was designed by all your subscribers, regardless of their email message reader.
• Batch Processing is useful in shared hosting environments. Set the maximum number of sent messages in a given time period.
• Throttling can limit the load on your server so it doesn’t overload.
• Domain Throttling limits the number of emails to specific domains to keep on the friendly side of their system administrators.
• Scheduled Sending let’s you tell phplist when the message is to be sent.
• Repetition. A message can be repeated automatically to send updated dynamic content and attachments.
• Text from HTML. Text email messages are managed fluently in phplist. phplist will automatically create a text version of an html message. Optionally the message composer can create it manually.

One solution is of course taking special standalone software for the special task. But here too you have to clean up the mess. Most of the special special functions are not used and you need to update a couple of systems for every customer. Keeping track of the changes is another enerving job as well as programming the css for each browser (…pucke)

I´m thinking of something more usable which could be accomplished with the following tecniques. My idea´s are not new, i just want to draw a "OpenSource-software-mix scenario" to point out one possible attempt. To follow what i´m writing about you should take a look into this pdf:

The solution to those scattered pieces of Addons and Plugins could be a central webservice which would deliver the main funtionality. Let´s stick with the classifieds script.

The whole intelligence like the classified management, emails, user administration could be done with the cakePHP framwork. The user would login here to do all his adminsitrative tasks. Instead of rendering normal HTML pages for the public classifieds views Cake would just render pure XML.

The public view side would be programmed with OpenLaszlo which generates a standalone swf File. The connection between both is made over HTTP Request. Of course there are some variables which the SWF needs to fetch the correct URL´s. Those variables could reside in an config file contaning the user´s login, special url´s or settings for the flashfilm itself, like textsize.

The technical advantages of such an enviroment is that the implementer does not have to worry about technical details, updates, formating html and whatever comes his way. He can simply put the swf wherever he wants and it quickly shows the classifieds from the webservice. The enduser get´s a really rich dynamic enviroment which can only be accomplished with flash. The Service Programmer does also not have to worry about different CMS Systems or Server setups.

Of course you are not bound to the cakePHP framework for rendering xml and delivering the intelligence. Ruby on Rails is another damn nice framework for such a scenario and there is already a OpenLaszlo Plugin available. I choose cakePHP in this example because it runs whith most webspaces, whereas ruby on rails support is not so widespread.

Please note that this is just a rough draft of an idea. Such a couple-up is not only usefull for small enhancements of cms systems like mentioned at the start. What kind of idea do you have?

Dr.Dave, der Entwickler von SpamKarma (dem besten Anti Spam WordPress Plugin) warnt ausdrücklich und erklärt in einem weiteren Post warum es keine tieferen Details zu der Lücke gibt.

So now there are 4 different colors to mark up to 4 words from the search string in different colors. Besides i build in an remote version check and put the files in an own folder.

This is definitly not the final state since the framework offers quite some more widget features, but i build this widget some time ago and had not the time to fill it up all the way. This way it leaves some air for updates

New rad features are:

- Randomize Widget Content. Split the content with the <!–more–> Tag and it will shuffle the text or php code inside.

This is the first Widget that implements an option for using a Javascript Slider. The slider lets you open and close a widget. The usage needs a little bit of html experience, but i´m trying to improve that and give a decent example.

Also brand new is the Options Dump. You can copy/paste your Widget Option stringified from one widget or blog to another. If your friend does not know how to set the right options, just send her yours without having to click through 10 fields.

-  If you want to use the sliding functions you need to activate the framework in pluginarea and set the framework option to include the needed javascript into the header.

Usage 

1. Go into the new King Framework Options Panel and activate the  "Insert Sliding Javascript to Head"

2. go to the login widget options and activate "Use Sliding Box"

3. The difficult part:

You have to fill the custom html options fields. The Box needs to be wrapped in a colappsible elemet(div/li/p) with special ID and you have to give the click event to some element. Since this can vary with your blogtemplate i left this up to you .

Check out the third screenshot to see the default config. When you have multiple Boxes you just have to adapt the numbers in loginslide1.toggle -> loginslide1.toggle and of course the id login1->login2
