Enhanced Login Box Widget with Options for custom redirect URL, Admin Links to show and the first Widget to support sliding open/close function.

A Login Widget does not sound very spectacular but still i found a way to add some salt to it. You can set a couple of menu links and the redirect URL for the successful login.

This is the first Widget that implements an option for using a Javascript Slider. The slider lets you open and close a widget. The usage needs a little bit of html experience, but i´m trying to improve that and give a decent example.

Also brand new is the Options Dump. You can copy/paste your Widget Option stringified from one widget or blog to another. If your friend does not know how to set the right options, just send her yours without having to click through 10 fields.

Features

initial Version 0.5

- set custom Login Redirect URL

– show/hide logout link

- show/hide register Link

  – show/hide link to own articles

- Option to use Javascript Slide Open/Close with cookie set for state

- Option to dump/read all settings into a string for easy transfer between widgets or blogs

– function to use inside your templates (indipenditly from widget)

- HTML fields to customize HTML before/after widget

- Fully localizable with gettext Translation (German Translation included in framework)

- Set on which Website Area to show the Widget. Options are:

show "NOT on special page area" which can be combined with "Show in Category" (List/Article)

show on Home / Search / Archive / Author or 404 page

show on all or special single Page. You can set the id or slug of the Page where to show

show on all or special single Article You can set the id or slug of the Article where to show

show on all or special Category Listing You can set the id of the Category where to show

Show if inside a Category (with ID). For Category Listings and also Articles

You find all Options explained in the WordPress Codex in Conditional Tags make sure to definitly read this if you are using those Options!

Of course you should have wordpress widgets installed and activated. If not, you can find the download and install instructions over at automattic.com

- Copy king-login.php into your plugins widget folder -> where your widgets.php is !!!

- Copy the widget Framework (/king-includes Folder) into /plugins (need new version(0.68) from 2.07.2006)!!

- activate in Pluginarea.

- Drag the King Widget on one of your sidebars and then play with it.

- If you want to use the sliding functions you need to activate the framework in pluginarea and set the framework option to include the needed javascript into the header.

Usage

The Option to use the slide Open/Close needs some further explanation. Here are the steps to be taken. If you don´t understand those you can simply overlook the swithes in step 1 and 2.

1. Go into the new King Framework Options Panel and activate the "Insert Sliding Javascript to Head"

2. go to the login widget options and activate "Use Sliding Box"

3. The difficult part:

You have to fill the custom html options fields. The Box needs to be wrapped in a colappsible elemet(div/li/p) with special ID and you have to give the click event to some element. Since this can vary with your blogtemplate i left this up to you .

Standart Options which should work with the default Template: (please check the " when copy/paste)

HTML Before Widget: <li>

HTML before widget Title: <h2 onClick="loginslide1.toggle();" ><li>

HTML after widget Title: </h2><div id="login1">

HTML after widget: </div></li>

Check out the third screenshot to see the default config. When you have multiple Boxes you just have to adapt the numbers in loginslide1.toggle -> loginslide1.toggle and of course the id login1->login2

It´s Sunday again … well, time to spam the Net with another wild King Widget. It took me some time to figure out what i could do to an RSS Widget to make it a little more geek-orientated.

Last night i found the solution. I got inspired by a WordPress RSS Plugin made by the SimplePie Team. The Plugin did not threw me of my chair but SimplePie provides a pretty neat looking RSS-Feed-Mangeling – Class which i instinctivly had to check. The time was well spend and the SimplePie RSS class is really doing a good job.

Anyway enough of those boring "under the hood"-details, you came here for an RSS Widget. King RSS allows you to have a different looking feed in every widget. It has HTML fields with placeholders (%title% / %link% ..) to configure the feed title information and each feed list item. If course you also have some switches to play with, there is an Ad-Stripper, a caching mechanism, configurable feed text length, No. of feed items …go check the features.

Before i forget, you can also use a feed function inside your template (Documentation comming soon).

Features

Version 0.52

- NEW: Remote Version Check.

- Bugfixes: Problems when displaying only in a special category/Area, faulty stripads call. Thanks to Vidal

initial Version 0.5

- HTML Fields which take template Code for displaying the RSS. Those fields have placeholders for:

RSS Feed Title Information: Site URL / Feed Image /RSS URL / RSS Icon

RSS Item Stuff: author / categories / date / link / text

- Configurable feed item date with php time syntax

- Configurable feed item text length or full article

- No. of feed items to display

- Switch to default settings

- Configurable Error Message when feed can´t be reached

- strip ads out of the feed (google / Doubleklick / pheedo)

- Caching mechanism with option to clear cache folder (there´s is no cachetime field, because SimplePie is working on a better fetching)

Install

Of course you should have wordpress widgets installed and activated. If not, you can find the download and install instructions over at automattic.com

- Copy king-rss.php into your plugins widget folder -> where your widgets.php is !!!

- Copy the widget Framework in /king-includes into /plugins (need new version from 18.06.2006)!!

- activate in Pluginarea.

- Drag the King RSSWidget on one of your sidebars, set default Options first and then play with it.

- Your Cache folder MUST have write Permissions depending on your server (777). I´m using the same cache folder like WordPress, in "wp-content/cache/" , so in most cases the permissions should already be set.

Usage

I did not had the opportunity to test all kinds of RSS Feeds. Therefore there might be some hidden Bugs or more needed features.

Atm don´t have the time to write an extensive tutorial. If you are a total beginner in html and wordpress you probably just want to use the original wp rss widget. If you still want to try i made a default switch to give you a descent start.

If you want to use the RSS Function inside your templates, please stay tuned i´ll document that after i´ll get the first feedback.

I have changed the License. It is not GPL for this widget. You are free to use it in private and charity enviroment. If you are using it for commercial purposes please contact me for a little licence fee and enhanced support.

The King Widget Framework contains a bunch of files and libraries on which all of the King Widgets depend. Without those files none of the King Widgets will work! The Framework resides in the /plugins/king-includes/ – Folder.
I decided to put often used functionality into those files, to make developing and maintaining widgets smoother.

Those of you that are already using my King widgets might askes themselves why to upgrade .. well i implemented a better AJAX foldable Admin Menu, made some css improvements and cleaned up the folder structure.

Check out this little screencast (sorry for the format was just a fast shot):

new_ajax_menu_1.wmv (283.75 KB )

The Framework includes:

one Language file for all King Widgets (currently only german)

CSS Styles for widgets

JS used in Widgets

Images for Adminarea

php libraries for Forms and Admin Head includes

<strike> Since those are a a couple of files, it is kinda hard to give the framework an overall numbering scheme. Therefore I´ll keep track of the changes in a changelog.txt file and go by date. The php and css files aditionally have an internal version numbering.</strike>

For future changes I´ll always put up the whole framework (Folder king-includes) so you can simply replace your existing files with that.
Yes i know i need a public SVN .. we are working on that and some more changes to make our wordpress plugins, themes and widgets easier available.

Changelog

Version 0.70 – 03.09.06

- new function to have a comma separated list in the "where ot show on sitearea "

- updated language file

02.07.2006

- Framework now has version numbering + remote version check with a Plugininterface to accomplish that
– added a switch in the framework plugin options to enable javascript includes for the new sliding widgets feature
– minor bugfixes + language strings

- Experimental!
added functions to have a widgets options dump for easy transfer of set options. The King Login Wdget is right now the first to test this functionality. Other widget will follow when it proves itself stable

Inside the folder there is also a changelog file

Install

Place the folder in the zip -> "king-includes" into WordPress Plugins folder -> wp-content/plugins/

Activate the Framework in Adminarea. The Activation is mainly to have a remote version check. With the time there will more options added to it.

Known issues

CSS Background Images in Widgets Admin are not shown.

If you have your WordPress installation inside a subfolder on your webspace e.g. ww.mySuperSite/wordpress/ you need to adopt the background image pathes in the CSS-Style Sheet. Those background images give your widget headers and the king widget menus a nicer look.

Look for those lines in king-includes/css/king_widget.css

background:url(/wp-content/plugins/…gif)

append your install sub directory in front of the line:

background:url(/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/…gif)

Internet Explorer shows all Menu´s open

I tried 4 hours to get by a ie bug and have not found a decent solution yet. If you are still using IE, well … that´s your problem, you will not be able to see those nice sliding menu´s. The bug shut the widgets admin menu´s directly after you opened them.

Please get yourself a descent browser:

The good News … I implemented a css style hack so that you can still set all King Widget Options and therefore use all King Widgets. All Menu Options of the widget are initally expanded.
Hopefully one of our CSS Freakz can give me a hand with this, or maybe you find a solution!

You are already using some King Widgets

Replace the king-includes folder with the new one. Grab yourself the new Version of the King widget you are using.

- What else would you like to see? Please comment!

Install

Of course you should have wordpress widgets installed and activated. If not, you can find the download and install instructions over at automattic.com

- Copy king_text.php into your plugins widget folder -> where your widgets.php is !!!

- Copy the King Widget Framework in /king-includes into /plugins if you have not already another King Widget installed

- activate in Pluginarea.

- Drag the King Text Widget on one of your sidebars and play with the options.

Usage

Show Content Randomly

- insert the <!–more–> tag between you text or php content

Use JS Slide Open/Close

- Hint: When used together with Random Content the Javascript does not instantly recognize the new height of the box. After toggling it the height is ok.

Here are the steps to be taken. If you don´t understand those you can simply forget about this function

1. Go into the new King Framework Options Panel and activate the "Insert Sliding Javascript to Head"

2. go to the text widget html options and activate "Use Sliding Box"

3. The difficult part:

You have to fill the custom html options fields(or use this inside the textbox). The Box needs to be wrapped in a collappsible elemet(div/li/p) with aspecial ID and you have to give the click event to some element. Since this can vary with your blogtemplate i left this up to you.

Standart Options which should work with the default Template: (please check the " when copy/paste)

HTML Before Widget: <li>

HTML before widget Title: <h2 onClick="textslide1.toggle();" ><li>

HTML after widget Title: </h2><div id="text1">

HTML after widget: </div></li>

When you have multiple Boxes you just have to adapt the numbers in textslide1.toggle -> textslide2.toggle and of course the id text1 -> text2

Upgrade

For Version 0.69 you also need to get the changed King Widget Framework which is now available separate.

After upgrading your framework just replace king-test.php with the new one. Your textboxes content should remain unchanged.

Download

Version 0.69

  king-text_0.69.zip (05.07.2006 01:13)

don´t forget to get the king-widget framework Version 0.68 or greater.

Version 0.63

     king-text_0.63.zip (09.05.2006 16:13)

Please don´t hesitate to give me a feedback if this is usefull or if you think you found a bug!

Have fun!

Ever wanted to set the options for your wordpress category list in admin area? Well now you can using this wordpress widget. King Categories gives you the full controll over every aspect of your wordpress category list.

First off i must say that the wordpress widgets plugin deeply impressed me. In fact, half an hour after MP:Ole pointed me to it, i had my first widget written.

Widgets will revolutionize the way normal users can interact with wordpress.

Therefore i wanted to write a plugin for one of the most used (and at least by me, most hated) wordpress template placeholder … the list_cats() It´s used for the category listing in the sidebar or somewhere else in your Website.
This function has a big ass eighteen Variables long parameter list, which let me struggle again and again. Also because there are big differences between setting a var to "false" or "0" (nicely mixed up in template-functions-category.php Line: 277 ).
I always ended up in an hour of trial and error until i had my custom category navigation build.

Anyway this WordPress Widget will hopefully wipe away your fear of the list categories function and makes it easy to screw around in the category navigation.

Features / Changelog

Read more in the Framework Article.

Maybe some JavaScript Pro can assist me with that … Help!
